A compelling, insightful and energetic force on the podiumconductor Rebecca Miller is acclaimed by press and audiences alike.  Her sophisticated music making and evocative command of varied composers and styles, coupled with her ability to communicate with audiences of all ages, have resulted in her increasing demand as a guest conductor throughout the United States and abroad.  First Prize winner in the 4th Eduardo Mata International Conducting Competition this past September 2009, Ms. Miller is Artistic Director of The New Professionals Orchestra based in London, England.

Ms. Miller’s 2010-11 season includes guest engagements with the Orquesta Filarmonica de la UNAM, the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico, Orquesta Sinfonica de Aquascalientes, Orquesta Sinfonica de Yucatan, the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra and two performances at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts. Fall 2010 performances also include a concert with The New Professionals Orchestra at the Hampstead and Highgate Festival in London. Of special note this fall is the November release by Signum Records of The New Professionals’ second CD, featuring the world premiere recording of composer Aaron Jay Kernis’ inventive work, Goblin Market (1995), a setting of Christina Rosetti’s poem for narrator and large ensemble.

For the past three seasons (2007 – 2010), Rebecca Miller served as Resident Conductor of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in the United States, where she was artistic director of her own series, “Casual Classics”.  As Resident Conductor, Ms. Miller conducted over 40 concerts a year, including  subscription and spotlight series performances, as well as dozens of education, family and community concerts. From 2005 – 2007, Ms. Miller served as Conducting Fellow of The Houston Symphony, leading over 70 concerts in two years, including her debut on the symphony’s classical subscription series, sharing the podium with Hans Graf.

Ms. Miller’s guesting credits include the London Sinfonietta, The Orchestra of the Swan, the Manson Ensemble, and the BBC Proms in the United Kingdom, The New Asiana Ensemble in Korea, and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra in Israel. In the United States, Ms. Miller has guested with The Houston Symphony, the Reno Philharmonic, Hunstville Symphony Orchestra, Williamsport Symphony Orchestra (PA), Musiqa Houston and at The Bard Festival (NY).

In 1999, Rebecca Miller founded the London-based The New Professionals Orchestra, an orchestra comprised of some of London’s foremost classical musicians.  As Music Director, she has led The New Professionals in guest performances at London’s South Bank Centre, the BAC Battersea Opera Festival, and at various music societies and festivals around the UK.  The orchestra’s debut CD, entitled, “Lou Harrison: For Strings” was released by Mode Records in 2004.  Featuring the world premiere recording of Harrison’s Pipa Concerto played by world renowned Pipa player Wu Man, it is also the first complete recording on CD of Harrison’s Suite for Symphonic Strings (1960). The orchestra’s second CD, “Kernis – Goblin Market”, includes the world premiere recordings of two works by Aaron Jay Kernis: Goblin Market (2005) and Invisible Mosaic II. “Kernis- Goblin Market” with Mary King as narrator, will be released by Signum Records this November.

Born in California, Rebecca Miller completed her studies in piano at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. She studied conducting at Northwestern University, the Royal College of Music and at the Aspen Music Festival and School.
